If you want to be part of an impactful team, work in a rewarding and enriching environment and have an innovative mindset, our HR team is the place where you belong!Position PurposeUnder the supervision of the Senior Director, Labour and Employee Relations, the role is accountable for the design, development, implementation and evaluation of an organizational framework, policies, and programs related to disability management for all employees of the University.The Senior Manager, Disability Management leads a team that supports the University in achieving improved health and productivity outcomes. Under the leadership of the Senior Manager, Disability Management the team offers guidance, support, and expert advice for handling short-term and long-term sick leave cases, accommodation files, return-to-work plans, and preventative strategies. Their services include disability management, disability-related absence reporting, WSIB claims, proactive case management, and facilitating effective return-to-work processes. Additionally, the role is expected to provide subject matter expertise and partner with all stakeholders at the University including senior management, management, and human resources employees on initiatives related to disability management, wellness, and health and safety.In this role, your responsibilities will include:Team Management: Manages a team of multidisciplinary professionals whose mandate is to support, encourage and propose strategies that favor employees’ return to work. Ensures their team provides expert advice and recommendations on disability claims, return to work strategies, and accommodation files.Strategy:Responsible and accountable for providing institutional direction and leadership on disability management, including the development of a range of strategically aligned services, such as the development of disability management services, and accommodation expertise and advice. Identifies corrective measures to mitigate risk and makes recommendations to senior management about the sources of chronic absenteeism, patterned absenteeism, and other subject matter relevant to disability management as directed. Development/implementation of policies and processes: Ensures the development, the revision, and/or deployment of processes, guidelines, policies, and procedures related to disability management while ensuring alignment with the University culture, business objectives, and vision along with best practice in industry. Benefit Program Development: Provides expert advice to the Benefits team on the structure of benefits offered to employee groups and direction in support of mitigating the direct and indirect costs related to excessive leave and benefit usage, premiums paid to benefit and insurance providers, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, and possible financial penalties from governmental agencies.Reporting: Develops and executes a methodology for identifying patterns of sick leave usage and trends related to accommodations. Identifies, and implements practical solutions and control measures. Responsible to take a critical look and analyze the systems, policies, programs and procedures that contribute to illness and injury and the factors that negatively impact employee performance and engagement.What you will bringUniversity degree in human resources management or a related field related, disability management, or health related field. Master’s degree is considered an asset.Ten (10) years’ experience within a large unionized and non-union organization.Seven (7) years of experience in a leadership role managing a team of human resources professional and/or disability management professionals and/or health professionals.Experience working for a group insurance provider considered an asset.In-depth knowledge and experience in disability management, including the management of WSIB files, short term and long-term sick leave files, adjudication, and accommodation management.In-depth knowledge and experience in designing and implementing organization-wide policies, procedures, and strategies.Knowledge of the principles, practices and processes involved in strategic planning and in implementing a strategic plan in order leading to the creation of short and long- term plans.Knowledge in the areas of health and safety and emergency and risk management.Familiarity with medical terminology and disability contract language an asset.Sound theoretical and working knowledge and application of Occupational Health and Safety Act, Human Rights, and Workplace Safety and Insurance legislation.Sound theoretical and practical knowledge of Employment Standards, human resources and financial management. Ability to act and think strategically and effectively lead, manage, motivate and mentor a team of various professionals.Demonstrated conflict resolution experience and the ability to influence individuals. Ability to develop and maintain long-term relationships with multiple stakeholders.Ability to effectively deal with situations that are sensitive, confidential, and high-risk in nature.Ability to juggle a multitude of complex files while meeting tight deadlines.Strong communications, interpersonal, team building, influencing and project management skills.Experience managing a budget and negotiating contracts with third-party providers.Bilingualism — French and English (oral and written expression).Prior to May 1, 2022, the University required all students, faculty, staff, and visitors (including contractors) to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 as defined in Policy 129 – Covid-19 Vaccination.
