JOB SUMMARY This job is exclusively for Co-op Students who are enrolled in a recognized post-secondary co-operative education program. Transportation Policy and Networks (TPN) is responsible for developing and monitoring the City's primary long-range transportation strategic planning document - the Transportation Master Plan (TMP). This is achieved through the collection of transportation data, identification of trends, regional transportation modelling and forecasting, development of policies, development of the transportation networks, and the prioritization of transportation projects to serve the needs of residents and to guide the growth of the City in an affordable and sustainable manner. You provide support to TPN's operations and activities, including: applying the regional travel demand model to assess the transportation impacts of various land use, infrastructure, and policy scenarios assisting with model development and maintenance preparing multimodal traffic projections to support major road, transit, cycling, and development projects conducting in-depth analysis of transportation datasets (including big data) to identify travel trends and relationships assisting with multi-agency data collection and modelling initiatives conducting research, developing automation tools, preparing data visualizations, and assisting with other transportation planning activities as required EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Enrolment in a recognized co-operative education program with a focus on transportation engineering, civil engineering, geography, urban planning or other related field. No experience is required. KNOWLEDGE Basic knoweldge of transportation planning principles and concepts Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation including the rights and duties of workers COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Strong organizational skills and problem-solving ability with excellent attention to detail Good communication skills Strong software skills (MS Excel, MS Access, ArcMap, Python, Visual Basic, transportation planning software such as EMME) Analytical and research techniques WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing Police Record Check: Driver's License Requirement: Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
