Turn challenges into sustainable solutions To support our North American team for projects located around the world, we are looking for a Junior Service Life Designer with focus on concrete durability to join us. You will be working on exciting infrastructure projects across the transportation and energy sectors, along with our highly professional team that provides technical expertise, design leadership, project management, and specialized engineering expertise. Your key responsibilities will be to: Prepare designs and calculations under the supervision of experienced engineers Prepare engineering reports and other technical documents together with standard documents, such as technical specifications Assess the condition and durability of new and existing structures constructed from both steel and reinforced concrete Perform service life design of new steel and reinforced concrete structures Liaise with other professionals and departments to gather information for projects Conduct site inspections from time-to-time, and perform other tasks as required Your skills. On top of that, you will: Hold a B.Sc. degree in an engineering discipline and M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Construction Materials, or a related field. Graduate studies related to deterioration mechanisms affecting reinforced concrete and the durability of concrete structures is required. Have structural design or project coordination knowledge and experience to supplement your service life design knowledge so you are well positioned to gain well-rounded experience through engagement with COWI’s diverse projects. Have experience with service life design, durability assessments, modeling of chloride-induced corrosion for concrete structures and structural steel deterioration mechanisms and associated protection measures (considered an asset). Be registered or qualified to register as an Engineer-in-Training in the home province or state, with the goal of obtaining Professional Engineer designation through COWI’s Junior Development Program. Have familiarity with construction specifications (CSA A23.1, AASHTO, provincial or state-specific construction specifications) and major structural design codes (CSA, AASHTO, ACI, and Eurocode) Great attention to detail and ability to work with staff located in other offices. Have the ability and willingness to travel, with a Canadian Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent.
