Garden Centre Assistant

GROBE'S NURSERY AND GARDEN CENTRE is an independent retail garden centre and Christmas shop that is looking for personable individuals to join our garden centre and nursery team as a GREEN GOODS/HORTICULTURAL ASSISTANT . Working with and learning about the growing of plants of every kind and sharing your enthusiasm for them with our customers is interesting, fast paced, physical and filled with variety - and there's nothing quite like being outdoors to see the beauty that you will see develop around you on our 6 acre location as a result of your efforts. After 60 years in operation we know it's an easy thing to love.

The successful addition to our team will be in good physical condition, have recent outdoor work experience, and will appreciate and contribute to the positive attitude we have worked hard here to establish. Preference will be given to those with previous recent horticultural experience (this might include the knowledge and ability to care for a wide range of plant material including annuals and herbaceous perennials, trees, shrubs and evergreens). No one can know everything (we continue to learn here everyday) and those who show a keen desire to learn will find that our team is exceptional at improving your skills and knowledge. Horticultural technician apprentices and GROW participants are very much welcome.

Duties include hands on work with the many thousands of varieties of plants sold and grown on the premises including unloading of delivery vehicles, tagging, watering, weeding, potting, fertilizing and pruning work. This work is neither field work nor orchard work.

This seasonal horticultural position runs from mid-March until September with further work right through the fall, and would extend to our busy Christmas season and even longer if available (with a permanent year round position very possible to the right individual). It involves daily work that includes all spring weekends with rotating summer/fall weekends off. Days can be long during our peak seasons, but work shifts are more flexible off peak so getting to the beach is easier with shorter shifts in the summer.

Salary : $17.75-$19.00 per hour
