There are a variety of Night Shift Supportive Housing / Emergency Shelter Worker positions available:

  • University Avenue Housing is an innovative interim housing partnership between The Working Centre and the Region of Waterloo. This is a housing first approach where people have a stable place to live while they transition from living in shelter or from the streets. Our night shifts are from 11:30pm-7:30am.
  • The Temporary Emergency Shelter is a partnership between The Working Centre and the Region of Waterloo, responding to the urgent need for people to find indoor space. The Shelter supports around 50 people per night, in a congregate setting. Our shifts are from 5:30pm-1:30am and 1:00am-9:00am.

Housing and Shelter Workers respond to the support needs of people who are street involved, often dealing with the complexities of substance use, lack of affordable housing, mental health issues, and challenges navigating complex systems. The work is highly relational, always challenging and changing, and is based on the needs of the individuals we support.

Housing and Shelter Workers are responsive, truly enjoy being with people, have a good understanding of collaboration and team work, and are not set on following standard routines in their work. The position requires taking a trauma informed approach, and working from a philosophy of harm reduction.
