Purpose of Role As a member of a global development team, this role is responsible for the design and development of the electrical architecture and controls of electro-mechanical equipment used in commercial, industrial, and residential applications. The candidate will collaborate with development teams in Ottawa and other Condair locations and participate in project teams to support the successful completion of development projects. Design and develop electrical, electronic, and control architecture for new equipment. Carry out load calculations and simulations to determine the electrical requirements of the complete equipment package and its components. Create wire diagrams, block diagrams, electrical schematics, and P&ID diagrams. Select standard commercially available electrical and electronic components. Create test plans for validation of electrical and electronic components. Prepare software specifications for third-party developers of embedded control software. Prepare hardware specifications for third-party designers of printed circuit boards. Work with third-party software & hardware developers to ensure designs are executed according to Condair specifications. Create test plans for validation of software and hardware (PCBs). Approve the use of electrical components, software, and hardware for required functionality based on review of lab test reports. Perform and assist with lab testing. Implement changes in CIP (Continuous Improvement Process) on existing products. Define production test requirements and test equipment. Support the Logistics, Component Engineering, and Quality teams with technical issues. Support the Product Care team in troubleshooting and finding solutions to customer issues. Adhere to Condair’s Quality Assurance and Health and Safety systems. Professional Skills, Qualifications, and Competencies Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and 3-5 years of experience in electrical design of electromechanical equipment. Language Skills: Excellent written and verbal skills in English. Ability to effectively communicate ideas, concepts, and technical solutions to technical and non-technical team members alike. Ability to Reason: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Computer Skills: MS Office literate: Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, Power Point. Experience with SAP or other business management software. Experience with PCB design software (Altium Designer or others) is an asset. Knowledge of programming in C or C++. Math Skills: Strong math skills in the areas of electrical load calculations and electrical circuit design. Certificates/Licenses: Professional Engineering Designation (P. Eng) designation is preferred. Other: Experience working with product certifications (UL, CSA, CE) is an asset. Experience with EMC and electrical safety testing is an asset.
