Position Outline:

The position is for the portfolio comprised of 1,400,000 square feet of office and retail properties located in the downtown district of Hamilton, Ontario.The Hamilton management office is located within the portfolio it manages. The Operating Shift Engineer maintains mechanical equipment such as heat pumps, boilers, air handlers, cooling towers, fire systems in a commercial office tower/retail complex in downtown Hamilton.This includes the daily operation, monitoring, troubleshooting, shutdown and start up, chemical treatment, operational checks and testing of HVAC equipment and control systems, instrumentation, emergency power generation, plumbing, mechanical, electrical and fire protection and alarm systems. Communicate the work status with the client groups via cell phone based maintenance application within the time frame given in response time policy. Adhere to established standards, procedures and policies.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Provides day-to-day operations and maintenance on rotating 12 hour shifts, delivering a high level of facilities management services to the tenants and close the work orders within time frame given in response time policy.
  • Monitors operation, adjusts, and maintains mechanical equipment such as heat pumps, boilers, air handlers and pumps that provide chilled water, hot water and air conditioning to the property. Ensure that all equipment pertaining to Plant Operations is functioning effectively.
  • Ensure work orders are attended to and closed within a timely manner and in accordance with all regulations and communicate the work status with the client groups via mobile application.
  • Comply with all company standards, procedures and policies and all governmental regulations, including participation of the occupational health and safety program and other legislative enactment.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints
  • Record all required readings and maintain accurate records regarding the operation of systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and unscheduled maintenance and repairs of all building systems.
  • With the guidance of the Senior Shift Operating Engineer, the Operating Shift Engineer is responsible for providing operational and technical support either personally or by way of contracted services oversight.

Qualifications:

  • Must have knowledge of HVAC equipment and its operation.
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of boilers and related equipment.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of how HVAC equipment, valves, dampers and other components can be overridden as well as understand the automation interlocks that may be triggered by those overrides.
  • Proven attendance record.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the job, working at heights, ladder work.
  • 2-5 years hands on experience in general maintenance in a commercial environment;
  • Possesses strong technical/operational capabilities with past experience in monitoring building systems and equipment.

Physical Demands:

  • Kneeling, bending, reaching, crouching, stair climbing, ladder work, exposure to noise, dust and temperature changes, extended periods of walking and standing.
