Responsibilities Maintain a clean, safe environment for residents utilizing infection control principles. Clean, disinfect, polish and dust residents' rooms, offices and common areas including, but not limited to, rooms and equipment including: furniture, closets, windows, walls, floors, shower and tub rooms, washrooms, reception area, break rooms, etc. Cleaning, sanitizing, and performing duties, including but not limited to: routine, deep, terminal and discharge cleaning, floor cleaning and maintenance, and waste management according to schedules. Dust residents' window ledges, door frames and closets; Perform daily/monthly cleaning of glass as needed; Clean counter tops, tables and chairs as well as disinfect all soils and spills; Vacuum all carpets as required; Clean washrooms of the entire Home; Clean, disinfect, and polish tubs, sinks, taps, toilets and mirrors; Wash all floors with germicidal solution; clean grout on the floors regularly; Dust and mop lounge areas daily; sweep and mop dining room floors after each meal; Do laundry for all the residents including personal clothing and linens; Follow up and take action on all reports of lost clothing; Clean up staff's lockers and volunteer and staff rest rooms; Sweep and wash stairwells weekly; Empty garbage to the janitor/soiled room; change plastic liners as needed; Clean wheelchairs based on assigned schedule; Follow procedures for the cleaning and care of equipment; Responsible for the inventory and control of laundry supplies and products; Communicate with the charge nurse regarding special care of linens or clothing; Checking that supplies are adequate in housekeeping and equipment is in proper working order before commencing daily routine; Carrying out duties in a positive and professional manner within a multidisciplinary team. Here's What You'll Need: Adheres to established departmental policies, procedures regarding quality assurance, fire, safety, environment, and infection control. Participates in facility meetings as assigned. Attends in-service education programs. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor. Requirements Familiarity with common cleaning products and equipment Ability to read and understand instructions in English Physical stamina to perform cleaning tasks Successful candidate must be available to work days, evenings, weekends and statutory holidays Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) Previous experience working in housekeeping role in long term care facilities or with the elderly is an asset
