Position Summary and Job Magnitude

The Housekeeping Services Supervisor will be responsible for the supervision and control of cleaning services for the entire residence facility. This includes leading a team(s) of staff responsible for the cleaning of student or guest rooms, common areas, office areas, and food service areas, if applicable. The effective supervision of subordinate housekeeping employees will be paramount to the success of this position. Leadership, problem-solving, and decisiveness are critical for success in this role.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties

  • Performing the duties of a Housekeeping Services Lead in the event a Lead position is not present or appointed.
  • Ensuring that all rooms and common areas are serviced and cleaned daily.
  • Ensure that function rooms are cleaned as soon as they have been used to ensure a fast turnaround.
  • Ensure there is an adequate supply of clean linen, in a good state of repair.
  • Ensure that rooms are checked regularly for repairs and refurbishing, and that Maintenance has been informed of such deficiencies.
  • Liaise with General Manager or Operations Manager; notify them of areas of concern.
  • Ensure the Housekeeping Services Department is staffed as necessary with qualified persons.
  • Ensure that staff are coached and trained to perform their duties effectively.
  • Ensure that attendance registers are completed daily and in accordance with statutory regulations and company policies.
  • Ensure that staffing levels are correct, to agreed standards, and are not exceeded without permission.
  • Ensure that adequate supplies of cleaning materials are available.
  • Perform quality assurance inspection to make sure cleaning activities within the residence facility are adequate and meeting any identified standards.
  • Ensure effective communications and imparting information at regularly held staff meetings with other departments and housekeeping staff.
  • Prepare and submit, in the required format, all information necessary for budgeting purposes.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for Housekeeping Services staff.
  • Participate in ‘on-call’ responsibilities on evenings and weekends and respond to facility, student and guest emergency or crisis situations.
  • Other duties as assigned

Health & Safety

  • Require employees work in the manner and with the protective devices, measures and procedures required by the OHSA, regulations, and Campus Living Centres (e.g. wearing safety shoes, confining hair, jewelry or loose clothing around moving parts, etc.)
  • Ensure the Personal Protective Equipment required for all subordinates’ job is readily available, in good working condition and ensure usage is recorded
  • Ensure all trainings required for each task are identified, documented, and readily available
  • Ensure all WHMIS 2015 regulated supplies and SDS sheets are readily available
  • Ensure hazard identification, labelling, and any additional chemical safety resources and documents are up-to-date and available for all workers

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or greater

Skills/Abilities: Must possess ability to perform physical tasks

Must possess superior positive attitude and customer service skills

Must possess the ability to lead a team

Must be able to work without supervision

Experience Required: Minimum 1 year experience in similar role
