Responsibilities

The Commercial Manager is accountable for overseeing contract reviews, leading negotiations with clients, supporting commercial opportunities including pricing decisions and corporate governance, developing bid strategies, and optimizing contract management processes to mitigate risks and drive business success. Key responsibilities include:

Contract review and negotiation

  • Reviewing contracts to ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Leading negotiations with clients on contract terms and conditions.
  • Identifying and mitigating potential risks associated with contracts.

Commercial opportunity support

  • Collaborating with sales and marketing teams to develop competitive proposals, by developing strategic approaches, offering appropriate challenges and assessing feasibility and risks.
  • Leading on commercial aspects such as pricing decisions and bid strategies.
  • Representing the interests of Searidge in commercial discussions with customers

Corporate governance processes

  • Drafting papers and reports for internal stakeholders to support decision-making processes.
  • Setting up timelines for approvals and sign-offs for contracts and other commercial activities.
  • Ensuring compliance with corporate governance policies and procedures.

Contract management

  • Managing the lifecycle of contracts from initiation to closure.
  • Tracking contract performance and ensuring adherence to contractual obligations.
  • Resolving contractual disputes and managing amendments as necessary.
  • Maintaining accurate records of contracts and related documentation.

Relationship management

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Serving as a point of contact for client inquiries and concerns related to contracts.
  • Collaborating with internal departments to ensure alignment on contractual matters.

Legal and regulatory compliance

  • Staying updated on relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Ensuring contracts comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Working closely with external legal counsel to address legal issues and risks.

Process improvement

  • Identifying opportunities to streamline contract management processes.
  • Implementing best practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Participating in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize commercial operations.

Risk management

  • Assessing and managing risks associated with contractual agreements.
  • Developing risk mitigation strategies to protect the organization’s interests.
  • Implementing controls to minimize exposure to legal and finance risks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, law, finance, or a related field. A master’s degree or relevant certifications (such as Certified Commercial Contracts Manager - CCCM) can be advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of contract law and commercial legal principles.
  • Experience in contract management, negotiation, and review, preferably in a commercial or corporate setting.
  • Experience leading contract negotiations with clients or vendors.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent numerical skills to support pricing decisions and financial analysis
  • Strong problem-solving skills to resolve contractual disputes and issues effectively.
  • Ability to travel internationally as required.
