LOCATION :North York, ON

HOURS : 9am - 5pm, Mon - Fri; 10:30am to 6:30pm on Tue and Thurs when working on site

EXTENDED HOURS : Dependent on needs of the program

SALARY : Hourly rate will increase to $27.10 after 12 months, $29.81 after 24 months

START DATE : ASAP

What you will do :

  • Provide new clients with an orientation to the services
  • Refer clients to Employment Counsellor on duty when appropriate
  • Refer clients to appropriate settlement, training or other programs in the community
  • Provide current labour market information in order to assist job seekers with their employment and educational goals
  • Update and acquire new resources that are useful for clients
  • Organize job search and career planning materials for visibility and easy access
  • Provide monitoring and follow-up services for all clients using the services
  • Assist walk-in clients with resumes, cover letters, job search activities and other employment needs
  • Ensure resource and Information targets are met through Workshop facilitation, job fairs and outreach activities
  • Assist with connecting with employers and organizing job fairs for assisted and unassisted clients
  • Make recommendations for other workshops based on client and community needs
  • Keep informed of organization programs and services
  • Support unassisted students with resume proofreading, mock interview and job leads
  • Input and update participant information in our Internal database
  • Contribute to the overall organization and planning of the resource Center
  • Ensure that clients adhere to the resource area sign-in procedures, and monitor the length of time and use of equipment
  • Maintain an orderly area and ensure client work stations are clear of paper and clean
  • Replace old job postings and notices in the area
  • Record statistical information as directed, for example, the number of job leads and the number of clients in the Center

What you need for this role : Education

  • University Degree, College Diploma or a combination of education and experience in the related field

Work Experience

  • 1+ years of experience working in the employment service sector
  • Experience working with newcomers to Canada, and an appreciation of the unique challenges faced by those who speak English as a second language

Licenses & Certifications

  • Negative Vulnerable Sector Screening Check issued within one year of hire date

Language & Communication Skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both oral and written
  • Second language is an asset

Transferable Skills

  • Knowledge and understanding of the challenges faced by the BIPOC communities and able to make culturally sensitive referrals when appropriate
  • Knowledge of effective job search techniques and employment programs for youth
  • Knowledge and experience using online platforms such as Zoom, Webex and others for online facilitation
  • Excellent customer service skills and strong desire to assist clients with their needs
  • Strong internet research skills
