In order to support their rapid expansion, our client is looking for an experienced General Manager in the greater Ottawa region. They are a privately held Canadian business committed to sustainability and integrity. They specialize in eco-conscious strategies to reduce, reuse, and recycle materials, contributing to a sustainable future for our planet.

Responsibilities:

The General Manager will oversee all financial, legal, and operational aspects of the organization.

  • Financial Management : Evaluate the profitability of each business line, implement annual budgets in collaboration with the controller, and review major contracts and insurance annually.
  • Operational Oversight : Ensure operational efficiency by reviewing material intake with the sales director, reallocating resources to improve capacity, and maintaining profit margins.
  • Strategic Leadership : Identify growth opportunities locally and nationally, report to the board, and implement new initiatives while delegating responsibilities effectively.
  • Team Management : Meet with managers to align efforts, support top-level management, and coach managers to follow the company’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Market Negotiation : Negotiate ferrous sales monthly, securing the best prices and additional markets for shipping.
  • Networking : Attend conferences, networking events, and industry-specific gatherings to foster connections and stay abreast of industry trends.
  • HR and Culture : Implement and respect the HR budget, identify gaps in corporate structure and processes, and set the tone for company culture by leading by example.

Qualifications:

  • Experience : Minimum of 5 to 10 years in a similar role, with solid experience in multidisciplinary team management.
  • Financial Acumen : Strong knowledge of financial management practices.
  • Bilingualism : Proficiency in French and English is an asset.
  • Travel : Willingness to travel as needed.
