The Coordinator: PAL is responsible for coordinating the day to day operations of the Pet Adoption Location program of the Ottawa Humane Society (OHS). We offer a competitive hourly wage range between $23.78- $28.95, commensurate with experience. This is a full time permanent position working 72 hours biweekly.

What would you do?

  • Support the planning and execution of the PAL Program and activities in cooperation with other departments
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with PAL partners
  • Coordinate appropriate animal placement with PAL partners based on targets
  • Transport animals to and from PAL locations
  • Monitor the health and well-being of animals placed in the PAL program
  • Train PAL partner staff
  • Ensure positive public relations and customer service practices
  • Lead and support the planning and execution of PAL events
  • Maintain OHS PAL facilities and equipment
  • Ensure accurate placement and financial records are maintained for the PAL program
  • Support the activities of volunteers, students and work placements and provide training and orientation as required
  • Be thoroughly familiar with pertinent legislation, regulations, guidelines, OHS policies, procedures, collective agreement, and good animal care practices
  • Produce and maintain accurate reports, records, and files
  • Participate in supervision, evaluation, training and other meetings as required
  • Participate in the identification and evaluation of OHS program goals and objectives
  • Participate in professional development opportunities
  • Represent the OHS in a professional manner
  • Participate in public relations and promotional activities as required
  • May be required to assume some of the responsibilities of the CSR: Adoptions and CSR: Intake
  • Maybe required to assume some responsibilities of Supervisor: Customer Service

What we are looking for?

  • Secondary school diploma or equivalent
  • Post-secondary diploma or certificate in an animal care program an asset
  • Minimum of two years’ customer service experience
  • Animal handling experience
  • Retail and/or marketing experience is an asset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Professional working proficiency in spoken and written English is required

Working conditions/ Physical requirements :

  • Employee may be required to work evening, holiday and weekend shifts
  • Employment is conditional upon the ability to provide services in a safe manner, including, but not limited to, lifts and transfers of large animals and interaction with potentially aggressive animals
  • Employment is conditional upon having and maintaining a valid driver’s license
  • Employee will be required to wear a uniform designated by the employer
  • Employment is conditional upon maintaining confidentiality of OHS information
  • Employment is conditional upon the ability to work around all species of animals safely
