Employment Program Coordinator

The Education Program Coordinator is responsible for planning, facilitating, supervising and running education related programs including after-school, cultural, recreational, non-instructional days, intervention and prevention activities to promote overall personal growth for the youth of the community ages 7 - 18. The Education Program Coordinator is also the lead for spring break and summer day camps.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Mentors, coaches and supports program participants and encourages greater social inclusion;
  • Works with parents and community groups to win support for improved provision and acts as an advocate for young people’s interests;
  • Provides one on one support for children, youth and students in the community;
  • Plans, develops, facilitates and supervises recreational, social and educational programs that support the positive cultural identity and personal wellness for the youth of the community;
  • Creates, implements and monitors community projects and programs to meet overall needs;
  • Plans, organizes and supervises activities for annual programs such as arts-based activities, community/environmental projects, residential activities, outdoor education and sporting activities;
  • Ensures sports, recreation and technology equipment is properly used and maintained;
  • Makes recommendations to the Director regarding other extra-curricular activities that support the interests of program participants;
  • Develops effective working relationships with clients, families and co-workers; resolves conflict with program participants or parents; assists in the resolution of issues and complaints and refers them to the Director when required;
  • Develops the summer and spring break day camps; and recruits, mentors, trains and supervises Youth Leaders;
  • Establishes effective relationships with children and youth through positive role modeling;
  • Adheres to the program budget established by the Director;
  • Prepares and submits reports such as participant tracking and academic performance to the Director;
  • Creates collaborative partnerships with other community agencies regarding program development and delivery;
  • Maintains records, reports, and an overall program work plan;
  • Monitors and maintains daily program attendance, equipment, and supply levels;
  • Promotes safety, health and wellness;
  • Respects individual privacy and confidentiality at all times.

Education and Experience:

  • Grade 12 graduation (Dogwood or BC Adult Graduation Diploma);
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience coordinating youth programs or experience working with children and youth;
  • Experience implementing programs and achieving outcomes;
  • Experience developing and preparing a variety of written reports, spreadsheets, presentations and other documentation independently and from written and verbal instructions;
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and reliable vehicle plus a clean driver’s abstract is required, a valid Class 4 license is an asset;
  • Clean criminal record check with Vulnerable Sector required;
  • Valid standard first aid and CPR certificate or the willingness to undergo training.

Job Types : Full-time, Permanent

Salary : $25.00-$28.00 per hour
