The Organization : The community of Pauquachin, a name generally meaning “the land of cliffs and bluffs”, is historically a First Nations community that is located on Southern Vancouver Island.

Pauquachin was originally part of the WSANEC (Saanich) Nation, which also includes Tsawout, Tsartlip and Tseycum. These bands share a common history and territory. The Saanich Nation belongs to a broader cultural group known as Central Coast Salish. Saanich First Nation settlements have been mostly concentrated on the western side of the Saanich Peninsula. The population in Pauquachin began as a small group of 14 families and many of these families are still present today.

The Opportunity : Working under the Finance Manager, the Finance Assistant will help in maintaining, organizing, and delivering all Pauquachin First Nation Administration’s financial operations and goals.

Duties and Responsibilities : The Finance Assistant will be responsible for the following regular tasks:

  • Data entries into Adagio accounting software
  • Monthly reconciliation of bank accounts, credit cards, etc.
  • Maintain relations and communication with vendors and staff
  • Verification of invoices
  • Managing Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable
  • Assisting the Finance Manager with preparation of reports
  • Receipt complete purchase orders upon receiving invoices
  • Schedule and prepare cheque runs
  • General administration duties
  • Disbursing and logging petty cash transactions
  • Other duties as required

What we require from you :

  • 2 Years of accounting experience
  • 2 Year diploma in Finance minimum
  • CPA certification or working towards certification an asset
  • Knowledge of accounting processes and systems
  • Experience with Adagio accounting software an asset
  • Valid class 5 drivers license
  • Satisfactory completion of a criminal record check
