What we are offering : * : MasTec Canada is currently recruiting for a Horizontal Directional Drilling Locator/Steering Hand with previous industry experience, _ to work on a project near Grande Prairie, Alberta.**_ The Horizontal Directional Drilling Locator/Steering Hand will work as part of crew to assist in horizontal directional drilling of crossings for installation of pipelines and/or conduits.

Knowledge of HDD projects and current work safe practices are essential requirements for this role.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

  • Setup and run the Digitrak F5 locator for HDD drill head guidance
  • Operate HDD Locator equipment in accordance with company and industry standards
  • Maintain company equipment per service requirements and safety guidelines
  • Communicate work progress and safety performance to the driller and/or rig manager
  • Perform various tasks required by the HDD driller, as needed
  • Take an active role in MasTec Canada’s health and safety program
  • Other duties as required

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :

  • Previous experience with directional drilling or locating is required
  • Previous experience in interpreting drilling plans is an asset
  • First Aid
  • H2S Alive

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :

  • Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for promoting and living out MasTec Canada’s 6 Core Values
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and current clean drivers abstract is required
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
  • Respectful, team player with positive attitude
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as drilling plans and safety rules
  • Ability to identify and report hazards
  • Attention to detail

OTHER REQUIREMENTS :

  • Ability to: sit, stand, bend, climb, lift (up to 50 lbs.), work at heights, and in all types of weather conditions (rain, snow, heat etc.)
  • Some travel will be required to site and/or office locations
