You’re passionate about building innovative financial products and solutions with an exceptional team.About you / qualifications:The Legal Counsel is part of the Peoples Group Legal Department and will primarily support the lending business units. The Legal Counsel will function as a legal expert in one or more specific business lines within the business unit. Law degree from an accredited law school and qualified to practice law in Ontario or another province in CanadaAt least 8-10 years relevant experience as a lawyer working with a major law firm or in-houseFluency in French language skills strongly preferredGeneral knowledge of financial services productsStrong contract drafting and negotiation drafting skills, general knowledge of financial servicesStrong attention to detailExceptional organizational, time management, interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to work in a fast-paced environment, adapt to fluctuating volumes and manage multiple deadlines and prioritiesA self-starter who can work independently and as part of a teamExperience with consumer protection law is an asset About the day-to day: Drafting, reviewing, negotiating and advising internal stakeholders and external counterparts on various types of agreementsSupporting the compliance teamDeveloping and maintaining form agreementsAssisting business units in identifying legal issues and risks and complying with laws and regulations that apply to the businessesProviding the business units with concise analysis and recommendationsSupporting development of new digital financial product and service solutionsManaging external legal counsel Annual Compensation:Peoples Group is pleased to offer employees a competitive annual salary and discretionary profit share opportunity. Salary for this position will vary between $160,000 and $200,000 per year depending on the knowledge, skills, abilities & experience that the chosen candidate possess.
