Addiction Medicine Physician - 12-week Locum

Position Summary A 12-week, 5-day/week locum opportunity, starting in May 2024, is available for a physician in the Addiction Medicine Program (AMP). Care is delivered on-site at the Homewood Health Centre in Guelph in a collaborative manner, with a supportive interdisciplinary team which includes nursing, social work, occupational therapy, recreational therapy, horticulture therapy and consultant psychiatry. The addiction medicine program operates 2 inpatient programs, a 6-week substance use program and a 9-week mood, anxiety, and concurrent program. Both programs integrate current evidence-based practices including routine use of opioid agonist therapy, and therapeutic modalities including motivational enhancement, CBT, DBT, occupational and recreational therapy. In this role as Addiction Physician you will act as most responsible physician in AMP and be responsible for clinical care of patients as they engage in their recovery journey. If you are looking for an organization that is constantly moving forward in pursuit of successful outcomes, get ready to love it here!   What you’ll be doing: Provide best practice clinical care including diagnosis and ongoing management of substance use and concurrent medical and psychiatric management and psychotherapeutic interventions Complete clinical documentation including history, mental status, diagnostic impression, treatment plan, and progress notes of the highest quality to ensure the medical record is meaningful and useful and a treatment plan can be established by the team Utilize computer medical administration such Caseworks and BDM (training provided) Collaborate and communicate with the inter-professional team with the shared goal of highest quality patient care Provide clinical direction to program development Participate in hospital committees/forums and quality assurance activities and attend medical staff meetings Provide supervision and mentorship to students and residents Support departmental research activities Provide clinical support in the training of allied Health Care Professionals Support colleagues with patient care coverage during physician absences, along with nurse practitioner support Provide legal and employment/insurance reports, as necessary Direct communication with referral sources, where necessary Complete and submit OHIP billings in a timely manner   What we are looking for: Degree in Medicine and a license, in good standing, to practice medicine in Ontario Registration with CFPC and CPSO Certification or fellowship in Addiction Medicine, or equivalent experience, preferred 3 years prior physician experience in a similar role, preferred Experience working collaboratively within an inter-disciplinary team Commitment to infection prevention and control needs of the hospital Exceptional leadership skills Proven critical thinking and analysis skills Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and action-oriented Strong ability to create exceptional relationship with referrers Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, French would be an asset Highly developed organizational and time-management skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office Inspire others to be accountable through action, decisions and/or communications Catalyst to help the organization contribute to the community Commitment to working within Homewood’s Health and Safety Standards As part of our commitment to the health and safety of our patients, staff and community from COVID-19, subject to any accommodation required by applicable human rights legislation, Homewood Health Centre requires that all staff have received all required doses of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by Health Canada.   Why work with us?
