Position :Heavy Equipment Operator

Status: Permanent, Full-time, up to 50 hours week, Monday - Friday, some Saturdays, start time of 5am

This position will assist in several aspects of daily operations such as scrap inspection, sortation, and general yard maintenance as directed. This position will require strong communication skills to ensure safety among co-workers, truck drivers, peddlers, and contractors.

Responsibilities : Operations

  • Assist co-workers in general operational duties that are essential to the yard in terms of safety, efficiency, and profitability
  • Work in accordance with Budget Environmental Inc.'s Health and Safety Rules, Programs and Policies, OHS (Occupational Health and Safety) and DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements as well as all local, provincial and federal laws.
  • Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain systems and components of scrap handlers, front loaders, Bonfiglioli Squalo 3000 shear, forklifts, bob cat/skid steer, non
  • ferrous processing equipment, Volvo stick shear, flip, repair and replace shear blades
  • Work in a cost-effective manner while maintaining a high standard of quality and workmanship
  • Completes required documentation, often utilizing fleet maintenance software program(s)
  • Presents him or herself professionally, positively, respectfully, and honestly with all staff and management
  • Immediately reports all unsafe situations or service-related issues
  • Attends and participates in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required
  • Notifies Management of any incidents, accidents, injures, or property damage.
  • Performs duties as scheduled and directed

Safety

  • Attends and participates in daily FLRA meetings
  • Immediately reports all unsafe situations or service-related issues to Supervisor.
  • Attends and participates in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required
  • Notifies Supervisor of any incidents, accidents, injures, or property damage.
  • Identifies and reports all equipment in need of repair or replacement.

Working Knowledge

  • Experience in the safe and efficient operation of hand/power tools and small equipment

Experience

  • Safe and efficient operation of an excavator; loading and moving waste and recycling/ Experience in demolition
  • Working knowledge with reading plans and understanding of grades.
