Position Title :Assistant Teacher Reports to : Principal Hours of Work : Monday - Friday, within the hours of 7am - 6pm Compensation : Compensation will be determined by their level of experience. Health and Dental Benefits are available after 3 months of employment, vacation time, and wellness days are available.

The Role

The Assistant Teacher engages each child in the classroom with hands-on learning and assists the lead teacher(s) as they execute their role(s). This person would reflect our mission and vision to provide high quality care for children.

Success

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The primary responsibility of the Assistant Teacher is to assist the lead teacher(s) in planning and implementing a program which provides for the optimal physical, cognitive, social and emotional wellbeing of the children in her/his care.
  • Works cooperatively as a team member, encourages others to do likewise and consistently maintains a positive attitude.
  • Takes initiative in completing tasks without direction
  • participates with children in all planned activities.
  • Effectively supervises children on all scheduled school walks, field trips and other outings.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers.
  • Attends and contributes to staff meetings and in-house professional development whether during or after regular work hours.
  • Maintains confidentiality of clients, co-workers and the school centre as appropriate.
  • Is sensitive to parent’s needs and maintains a supportive relationship with them on a professional level while following school policies

Qualifications and Experience

  • Up-to-date First Aid and CPR
  • Up-to-date Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Up-to-date Immunization and 2-tiered TB test
  • Experience working with children between 18 months - 6 years (childcare experience an asset)
  • Strengths in organizational skills, communication skills, parent education and leadership
  • Excellent teamwork skills
  • Confident and flexible professionalism
  • Love of outdoors
