PROFILE

We are currently recruiting for a Marketing Research & Industry Recognition Specialist. As a new position for Gowling WLG (Canada) LLP, the specialist will be responsible for overseeing the Firm’s marketing research functions including managing primary and secondary client surveys, interviews and focus groups and, industry and market recognition programs and activities.

As a member of our Gowling WLG (Canada) LLP team, this role can be based in any of the following offices: Calgary, Hamilton, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Waterloo, or Vancouver.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Marketing Research

  • Oversee the collection and analysis of primary and secondary marketing research to provide descriptive, diagnostic and predictive intelligence to the Firm.
  • Provide research support for pitches and client meetings.
  • Manage client feedback programs and serve as Canadian lead on global client marketing research initiatives.
  • Co-manage vendor relationship of the Firm’s global enterprise survey tool (SurveyMonkey or similar) and establish best use of the tool surrounding questions, design and analysis.
  • Identify and manage research agencies to assist with primary and secondary research initiatives.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

Industry Recognition

  • Manage the participation and submissions for a variety of rankings and awards programs including Chambers, Legal 500, Best Lawyers, Lexpert etc.
  • Maintain databases and up to date records of the firm’s industry recognition activities and results.
  • Conduct a thorough review and analysis of the recognition results and provide reports to others on the team as required.
  • Research and stay current with legal rankings and awards ensuring that recommendations for new rankings and award opportunities are put forward.
  • Manage the annual awards processes for lawyers and their clients (including CGCA, Zenith Awards, FT Innovation Awards, etc).
  • Manage external consultants brought in to assist with industry recognition initiatives.

* QUALIFICATIONS

  • Postsecondary education with a focus on business and/or marketing research.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience with qualitative and quantitative marketing research as a researcher in a law firm or other professional services firm, or research agency, working independently or as part of a competitive intelligence team.
  • Knowledge of legal industry directories, rankings and awards an asset.
  • A demonstrated enthusiasm for research-based work and the ability to multi-task.
  • Experience using Capital IQ, WestLaw and/or similar market and legal research services.
  • Excellent attention to detail and well-developed analytical and writing skills.
  • Good organizational, project management and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to function independently but also comfortable collaborating as part of a team, or with multiple diverse teams simultaneously.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Project and Excel.
  • Bilingualism is an asset, but not required for the role.
