Community Disability Services Worker (CDSW)

Position Summary

Reporting to the Team Leader, the Community Disability Services Worker is responsible for providing support to Individuals in accordance with Blue Heron’s philosophy, the Principles of Support and the Individual’s Personal Support plan. The Community Disability Services Worker provides support that facilitates the Individual’s growth, development and achievement of personal goals.

The Community Disability Services Worker works closely and in consultation with the Team Leader, Program Coordinator and the Individual’s support team.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • Foundations in Disability Studies Certificate or Basic Skills Training or Relevant Certificate or Diploma in Human Services
  • Standard First Aid & CPR Certificate
  • Solid Computer Skills (word, excel, google calendar, Gmail & data bases)
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills

Experience

  • Six month’s experience in the Human Services field
  • Six months experience supporting people with Addictions, Mental Health & complex behaviors

Other

  • Vulnerable Criminal Record Check
  • Alberta Child Welfare Check (if working with Individuals under 18yrs old)
  • Valid Alberta driver’s license and a safe vehicle
  • 2 million liability on vehicle insurance & Registration
  • Drivers Abstract (3yr)

Expectations : Successful applicants will be required to work a rotation of days, overnights, & weekends. Duties will require the employee to perform a variety of support activities, which may include daily living activities, community or employment support or personal care with Individuals. Personal care can include lifts & Transfers, toileting, bathing, brushing teeth, shaving etc. Employees will be required to complete mandatory professional development with in the given time lines and commit to a return to service for each course they take. Training may be in person or through zoom & google classroom. All CDSW are required to complete a 4-5 month post secondary certificate called Foundations in Disability Studies after their first 6 months of employment. This training requires the employee to sign a 1yr post training return to service agreement with Blue Heron.

Pay: $17.88-$29.98 per hour

Education :

  • Secondary School (required)

Experience :

  • Working with persons with developmental disabilities: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • First Aid Certification (preferred)
  • Class 5 Licence (required)
