Job description

GFR Ingredients is looking to hire a full time, permanent Quality Assurance and Control Technician. GFR Ingredients is a premier manufacture of plant-based food ingredients, and is located in Barrhead, Alberta, just one hour and twenty minutes north-west of Edmonton. Extensive on-the-job training will be provided by shadowing an experienced technician, with online training provided as needed. The shift will be 12 hours per day, on a rotating four-days-on, four-days-off shift.

Main Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Conduct a wide variety of chemical, physical, and microbiological testing on various products to ensure they meet food safety, food quality, and any customer-required specifications.
  • Monitor production processes to ensure those processes meet critical control points, process control points, and other processing requirements.
  • Monitor the production environment to ensure compliance with our hazard analysis critical control point (HACCP) program, good manufacturing practices (GMP) program, and other food safety programs as applicable.
  • Maintain and recalibrate various pieces of scientific equipment.
  • Oversee and validate the cleaning and sanitation of production process equipment.
  • Participate in our environmental monitoring and pest control programs.
  • Maintain digital records in an organized fashion.
  • Correspond with external contract labs regarding methods and results.
  • Review and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) as required.
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements :

  • A fast learner, willing to take on new and varied tasks in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Able to work collaboratively as part of a diverse team with individuals from other departments.
  • Motivated and able to work efficiently while unsupervised.
  • Team player with the ability to follow-up and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Adaptable and able to quickly determine the best solution in unexpected situations.
  • Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Able to lift at least 20 kg.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to complete tasks with accuracy, while working within deadlines.
  • Prior experience in the food industry, in quality assurance, or in analytical testing is an asset.
  • Post-secondary education in a scientific field is an asset.
