Hydrographic Technician

Terra’s Marine business continues to succeed and Terra is seeking to add a full-time Hydrographic Technician to assist with marine geophysical and hydrographic surveying; including but not limited to acoustic positioning and imaging as well as data processing and reporting.

  • Conducting high resolution marine hydrographic and geophysical surveys.
  • Assisting with the maintenance, logistics and planning and operation of navigation and positioning equipment to ensure accurate data collection.
  • Maintaining field logs as well as processing and analyzing data during and after survey completion.
  • Participating in all project set-up requirements, including, project checklists, forms and equipment, preparing project management documentation, including project schedules and budgets.
  • Assisting with reporting writing and client presentations.
  • Maintaining and developing standard operating procedures, work instructions and documentation in relation to the Marine surveying function.
  • Pro-actively performing maintenance and testing in order to diagnose and correct software and hardware problems before they arise.

Job Requirements

  • 1+ years of data acquisition and processing of high-resolution marine hydrographic and/or geophysical data including, hydrographic and alternate marine surveys.
  • Undergraduate degree or related diploma in a related Marine Surveying program. Hydrographer Certification (ACSM or equivalent) is an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in managing projects, including project scheduling, budgeting and writing reports.
  • Working knowledge of sonar equipment; including data acquisition and post-processing, underwater video systems, and marine geophysical and hydrographic surveying equipment. Experience with underwater ROV’s an asset.
  • Sound working knowledge of singe-beam & multibeam echosounders, scanning sonars; including, side scan sonars, sub-bottom profilers, magnetometers, water level gauges, DGPS systems as well as interfacing navigation and data collection software.
  • Experience using Hypack/HySweep, Microstation, AutoCAD, GIS and any other pertinent and related software is an asset.
  • Experience trailering and operating small boats (up to 35 feet in length). Boat Operator Certificate required (SVOP or equivalent) is an asset.
  • SVOP, MEDS, SRT, First Aid are assets.
  • Ability to travel and a valid Driver’s License required.
  • A valid and clear criminal record check is required upon hire.
