RESPONSIBILITIES : 21 hours per week :

  • Support and maintain effective communication with the cross-functional Program Team, including Case Coordinators, Parent Support Coordinators, Outreach Coordinator, Volunteer Recruitment Coordinators, Client Activities Liaison, Mental Health Counsellor, Boys Empowerment Coordinator, Girls Empowerment Coordinator, Tutoring Coordinator & Assistants
  • Support the Program Team to achieve the Federal Government IRCC newcomer targets for the 1:1 Peer Mentoring, Tutoring, Girls Empowerment and Boys Empowerment programs
  • Drive and Manage the Newcomer matching process to ensure that all Newcomer clients are expedited through the home assessment and matching process
  • Support the Program Director with hiring, including screening, interviewing, reference checks, employee contracts and onboarding of new employees
  • Monitor caseload management, the flow of volunteer recruitment, screening & training and the matching process
  • Track project performance using appropriate tools and techniques
  • Prepare regular status reports and present project updates to senior management
  • Complete employee evaluations in conjunction with the Program Director
  • Work collaboratively with the Program Director to monitor and enhance existing processes, procedures, forms, letters and resources to ensure that program staff have the best tools available to carry out their duties

  • Match at-risk and newcomer children into One-to-One peer mentoring relationships with trained Volunteer Youth Mentors based on background and needs
  • Assess volunteer mentor and child mentee / family fit within Youth Assisting Youth’s community-based One-to-One Peer Mentoring Program by completing individual home interviews/ needs assessments and other enrollment processes
  • Match qualified volunteers using intake data to achieve the best relationship and outcomes for youth. Once the match is created, provide ongoing monthly match support for the volunteer mentor and child in order to monitor and guide their relationship development
  • Determine the indicators for success and establish goals with both the child mentee / family and youth mentor at the initial match visit
  • Work cooperatively with the Volunteer Recruitment team to find mentors in the areas of need
  • Actively network with newcomer service organizations in the community to facilitate referrals of children where there are existing volunteer mentors
  • Regularly update and manage the Google Map of waiting mentors, and maintain active communication with Volunteer Recruitment team where mentors are needed

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work or equivalent field
  • 5 plus years of experience in social services program and project management, specifically working with children and youth
  • Must have intake, interview and case management experience
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of issues faced by immigrants and new Canadian
  • Assessment and relationship development experience with child and youth populations and a solid understanding of child development and family dynamics
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making skills, as well as a performance-driven mind-set
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community and newcomer services organizations
  • Experience managing volunteers, especially youth volunteers, is an asset
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Fluency in a second language is considered a strong asset
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively
  • Ability to work some evenings and occasional weekends
  • Must have a valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificate or be willing to obtain
  • Police Criminal Reference and Vulnerable Sector Screen Check is required

COMPENSATION - This is a six month contract position with a possibility of extension. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
