This includes responsibility for coordinating the delivery of tragic event support to students.The incumbent utilizes management skills to deliver high-quality services that reflect current post-secondary support and outreach models. The incumbent is able to lead teams that deliver support services and outreach activities related to student mental health, substance use harm reduction, sexual violence prevention and general health promotion relevant to a contemporary postsecondary student population. This includes developing and executing strategic initiatives to meet continually evolving student needs. They must work effectively in a multi-disciplinary and culturally diverse setting through the use of appropriate written and oral communication methods. They are able to apply all Ontario regulations that relate to privacy of information and the delivery of psychotherapy relevant to the delivery of counselling services in a post-secondary setting. Lastly, the incumbent has an understanding of post-secondary student needs, concerns and issues, and ensures that all services and resources under their supervision effectively and respectfully meet those needs.Duties and Responsibilities:Manages staffing and operations of the Counselling Servicesatmultiplecampuscampusestoensureprofessionaldeliveryofcounsellingsupports to the student population;Manages staffing and operations of the Student Health and Wellness Zone at multiple campus campuses to ensure to ensure the effective delivery of health and wellness programming in promotion of positive student mental health, substance use harm reduction, sexual violence prevention and general health;Manages staffing and operations of the Student Support Services Welcome Centre to ensure that the service provides the effective first point of contact and administrative support for the Centre for Accessible Learning, Counselling Services, and the Student Health and Wellness Zone;Ensures that departmental budgets are used effectively by optimal utilization of human, fiscal, and physical resources. Helps to meet departmental resourcing needs through the development of revenue-generating services, projects, and products. Plans departmental priorities. Ensures smooth operation and continuity of services and programs through effective succession planning;LiaisonwithStudents’Association,DepartmentalChairs,administrationandfacultytoassessneeds,identifysolutionsthatarerelevanttocurrentstudentpopulation. Maintains membership on a variety of College committees such as the Mental Health Steering Committee;Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications:Master’s degree in Counselling, Education, Social Work or a closely related field or equivalent;Registered in good standing or eligible for registration with a college approved to provide the psychotherapy as per the Psychotherapy Act of OntarioPosition requires solid counselling skills and the ability to supervise clinical counselling, experience with conflict resolution at all levels (student-student, staff-student, etc.,) a mix of managerial and administrative skill, and leadership skills with the ability to work in a consultative and collegial manner. Job also requires familiarity with legal issues surrounding student life, student conflict, privacy of information and counsellor liabilities, as well as knowledge of psychometrics.The incumbent must also be computer literate.Incumbent must be familiar with all potential agencies for client referral (e.g. psychiatric, health related, etc.).Exposure to and familiarity with multicultural issues within an academic setting.A combination of seven years of experience primarily in counselling and in management; A minimum of three years of line management showing a high level of leadership*Vacancy is for position P00089*The position is paid at Payband 12Algonquin College values diversity and is an equal opportunity employer.
