Mid Island Co-op is hiring a Human Resources Advisor for our Administration Office in Nanaimo, British Columbia.

What you’ll do : The Human Resources (HR) Advisor plays a key role in the Human Resources Department of Mid Island Co-op. The HR Advisor leads in the efficient organization of all administrative HR functions for Mid Island Co-op. This position is responsible for supporting the HR Director in the day-to-day functions of the Human Resources Department (e.g. recruitment, engagement, wellness, compensation, etc.).

  • Delivers new employee on-boarding and orientation.
  • Assists Human Resources Director in developing succession planning initiatives and engagement strategies for the co-operative.
  • Provides coaching and support to managers on all aspects of talent management practices, including goal setting, performance management, talent development and exiting employees.
  • Provides coaching and assistance with the disciplinary process, formulating disciplinary communications, advises on disciplinary meetings and is involved in meetings when required.
  • Conducts investigations which includes conducting employee interviews/meetings, record keeping and follow up documentation to ensure transparency throughout the process (often for sensitive and complex issues such as harassment).
  • Provides advice and guidance on compensation practices, pension, benefits, retirements, leaves, etc.

Who you are : You are looking for a career in Human Resources and:

  • You have a certificate, diploma or degree in Human Resources or an acceptable combination of education and experience. A CPHR designation would be an asset.
  • You have three or more years of Human Resources or other relevant experience.
  • You have excellent analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • You have strong verbal, written, organizational and communication skills; as well as strong computer knowledge and skills (Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook).
