Full Time Personal Support Worker (PSW) Program Instructor

We are seeking a PSW Program Instructor to assist with the active and ethical delivery of the PSW Program taught at Toronto Business College. The PSW Program Instructor is responsible for the supervision of the day-to-day delivery of safe and effective delivery of the PSW Program by implementing program and college policies, procedures, standards and quality management.

Additionally, the PSW Program Instructor works with the learner for a defined period of time to assist the learner in acquiring new competencies required for safe, ethical, and quality practice. They assist the learners by setting expectations, providing effective feedback about their performance, and providing appropriate opportunities to meet their learning objectives. The incumbent will also maintain the program ensuring it remains up-to-date and in alignment with standards.

Responsibilities :

  • Ensuring effective and efficient operation and delivery of the program
  • Knowledge of responsibilities under Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Provide prompt and accurate advice to students about college policies and procedures.
  • Organize and maintain the number of supplies, stock and equipment of the classroom as needed.
  • Conduct clinical documentation audits
  • Ensures to follow a safe and clean environment in the classroom and complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Be a resource for the student by offering direction regarding skills competencies and expectations.
  • Supervise clinical placements hours.
  • Attend placement host site visits as required.
  • Meet with students as required.
  • Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
  • Be a resource for the student by offering direction regarding skills competencies and expectations.
  • Monitor progress and provide constructive feedback to the student.
  • Be a positive role model to the student.
  • Support the student in seeking out appropriate learning opportunities.
  • Maintain regular communication with the placement host supervisor regarding student performance and ability to work in a team environment

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse
  • Current CNO registration
  • No practice restrictions
  • Fluent in English is a must
  • a minimum of two (2) years current, relevant work experience in a clinical environment, preferably in a long-term care/community/chronic care setting
  • a minimum of three (2) two years in teaching experience, preferably in a nursing, health science program or equivalent
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Must be available for day and evening shifts
  • Highly responsible, reliable and works with integrity
  • Proactive problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Organizational and multitasking skills
  • Detail orientated
  • Able to work independently

Education :

  • Bachelor's Degree (preferred)

Experience :

  • Teaching: 2 years (preferred)
  • Nursing: 2 years (required)
