PURPOSE OF POSITION : KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & ACTIVITIES :

  • Implementation of EH&S processes to meet EMS 14001/E2HS and WCM Environmental Pillar requirements
  • Work with Human Resources (PD) to ensure compliance training requirements are achieved before expiry
  • Work with Engineering/Facilities on new equipment programs at the concept stage to ensure that Environmental design specifications, permit requirements and regulations are considered prior to buy off
  • Conduct regular audits of EHS processes and follow-up where necessary to ensure compliance
  • Escalate findings from audit regularly to plant leadership and corporate EHS
  • Oversee and report on progress with regards to sustainability reporting
  • Oversee and report on progress/gaps with regards to ISO 14001 certification; reduce or eliminate gaps
  • Respond to and analyze environmental incidents and EWO’s (eg. water/oil spills) determine root causes, implement corrective action and communicate to plant leadership and corporate EHS. Present impact on KPI’s at QBR
  • Manage supplier contacts, generate purchase orders and/or cheque requisitions on a timely basis
  • Monitoring and maintaining accurate and complete records within the Environment, Energy, and Health & Safety Management System OHSAS 18001 (45001), ISO 14001, ISO 50001, WCM Pillar requirements, SDS binders, Training records, contractor audits, IATF 16949) demonstrating compliance and conformance in electronic and hard copy
  • Ensure proper PPE, Environmental equipment is available and used appropriately per SDS
  • Facilitate Environmental & Energy training in New Hire Orientation and promote EHS social responsibility
  • Identify Environmental deficiencies, assign responsibility and track implementation of countermeasures
  • Develop monthly Environment talks and newsletter article
  • Point of contact for Governmental agencies with respect to Environmental legislation
  • Attend external JHSEC meetings and Safety Group meetings and ensure all annual requirements are met
  • Complete EHS projects to improve EH&S key performance metrics
  • Report Environmental Performance Metrics at Plant EH&S meeting
  • Attend daily Green room reviews to review environmental impact of repairs and suggestions may have
  • Provide safety support and coverage to help ensure safety compliance and drive safety improvement projects
  • Knowledgeable of all relevant policies, procedures and processes under IATF 16949

JOB REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge/Skill/Experience) :

  • Diploma in Human Resources, Environmental Engineering, Health & Safety, Ergonomics/Kinesiology or related field
  • Strong working knowledge of the National Pollutant Release Inventory, TDG and Ministry of Environment legislation
  • Experience responding to EHS concerns and participate to prevent unnecessary Work Refusals
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Previous experience in manufacturing an asset
  • Ability to present data visually with supporting Microsoft Excel info. (e.g. Pivot Tables, Conditional formatting)
  • Team player with a positive attitude

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL EFFORT & WORKING CONDITIONS :

  • Exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable on a daily basis
  • Regularly interacts with others; shares the same work space with EHS team, socially distanced
  • High level of interaction with employees requiring assistance with work related EHS issues

Must wear appropriate PPE as identified by SDS, company policy and procedure and legislation.
