Canada Building Materials (CBM) , formed in 1930, is the building materials division of St. Marys Cement Inc., with ready-mix and aggregate operations across Ontario and Quebec. CBM is a subsidiary of Votorantim Cimentos.

CBM is comprised of two divisions - CBM Ready-Mix, delivering high-quality ready-mix concrete to a variety of customers, and CBM Aggregates who produces sand, gravel, and stone to an ever-growing market.

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY ?

CBM Aggregates is seeking a temporary full-time Quality Control Technician for our western locations for a six (6) month contract.

The Quality Control Technician will perform quality control testing services for aggregate production (process control) and the sales department (shipping and customer service). They will support process improvement projects to optimize product mixes and production. This position requires the ability to direct process changes and partner with site management & sales team to maintain aggregate products within customer targets.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Sampling & Testing Production/Shipping
  • Sample aggregate products following CBM sampling policy and safety procedures. Perform aggregate tests (gradations, physical properties) in accordance with specified test methods. Report in a timely and clear fashion the quality of products with regard to production issues (targets, causes, solutions) and shipping issues (end user requirements).
  • Data Analysis & Process Changes (Troubleshooting)
  • Customer Service & Understanding Requirements
  • Know and understand why targets are set for customer end uses and how changes will affect them. Describe product uses and obtain product samples for customers.
  • Customer Service
  • Assist sales personnel in customer service related to test data and product uses. Ability to resolve quality issues to maintain high level of customer satisfaction
  • Resource Analysis & Test Pitting
  • Assist production personnel in production trials, sampling and documenting quality for green-field sites.
  • Process Improvement
  • Lead process improvement projects, using effective Root Cause Analysis.
  • H&S - Ensure compliance with CBM Health & Safety Policies

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

  • Experience in the aggregates, cement, ready-mix or similar industries.
  • College Certificate/Diploma in related field preferred (Civil/Environmental/ Material engineering technology or other physical sciences).
  • Graduates or 1-3 years of experience.
  • A certified Technician (C.Tech) or Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) would be preferred.
  • People management, problem solving and decision-making skills, strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing variables.
  • Fundamental knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; LIMS systems (AggQC).
  • Knowledge/Experience of aggregate processing practices, and equipment and aggregate specifications for the construction industry, (general construction, road building, concrete and hot mix asphalt technology) is an asset .
  • A valid G Class Ontario driver's license.

THE DETAILS :

  • Up to $28.00 per hour
  • Six (6) month contract with an immediate start date.
  • This role is based primarily out of St. Marys, Ontario but will require regular travel to other company locations.
  • This position will use a company owned pickup truck for any work-related travel.
